A letter from Santa for little ones (ages 2–5)

Two-year-olds can't read, but they know Santa's letter when they see one. For this age the letter works as a prop for the moment: you read it aloud, they point at their name, and the magic lands through your voice. Dear Claus writes toddler letters short, warm and simple — and the name is drawn in ink big enough for a proud finger to trace.

Santa Claus
The North Pole
North Pole,
December 2026

Dear Mia,

Hello from the North Pole! Snow is falling here tonight. It piles up on the workshop roof like powdered sugar. The elves keep peeking out the window to watch it.

Every December I look through my long list, and this year your name has a bright little star beside it. It’s staying there, too.

Merry Christmas, little friend! Eat lots of cookies and sleep tight on Christmas Eve.

P.S. Mrs. Claus says children who sleep well on Christmas Eve get the best mornings. She has been right about mornings for four hundred years, so I would listen.

With love and a jingle,
Santa Claus

Written for small listeners

The toddler preset keeps sentences short and concrete: the reindeer, the cookies, the big red sleigh, and one or two things Santa heard they did this year. Abstract praise like 'you've grown so much' means little at three; 'Santa heard you learned to pedal' lands. The candy-workshop theme matches the picture books on their shelf — bright, sweet and slightly sticky-looking.

When to give it

Early is better for this age. Toddlers live one Christmas Eve at a time, so a letter that shows up at the start of December gets re-read (re-performed, really) every evening until the big night. Laminate it if it's going to survive that schedule.

Printing tips for tiny hands

Print at actual size on the thickest paper you have — card stock if the printer takes it — because this letter will be handled, carried and possibly fed to a toast-loving sibling. If you're reading it aloud on Christmas Eve, print a spare: cocoa happens.

Questions parents ask

My 2-year-old can't read. Is it worth it?

The letter is really for the reading-aloud moment and for the photo of them pointing at their name. Parents tell us the traced finger on Santa's handwriting is the picture that ends up framed.

Which age does the preset use?

The button below starts the wizard with age 4 pre-selected and the candy-workshop theme chosen — two clicks and you're typing the name. You can change both in the wizard.

Can I mention a new baby at home?

Yes — pick the new-sibling option in step 2 and Santa will acknowledge the big change gently. There's a whole page about that letter if it's the main story this year.
